November is coming

NaNoWriMo is on the waaaaaay!

I have a special place in my heart for NaNoWriMo because it’s an event during which a) I wrote a story that I love very much, b) I spent some great time with my friends while suffering together and c) I learned to write systematically.

Last year, I participated but my goal was to revise the #angstyspaceopera book, so I cut far more words than I added. This year, I still have ALL the revisions to finish before the end of the year, if I care to call 2016 a success of any sort. But the thing is, I really miss the excitement of a new story. I miss the sharing of this excitement with people that yell on tumblr and NaNoWriMo’s forum about their struggle and joy on writing their stories.

So, I think I’m going to write another book.

Almost a month ago, I was brainstorming ridiculous names for a project that didn’t require ridiculous names. One of those stayed with me and slowly, but steadily, formed into a story of each own. And I really, really, want to start working with it. I’m still in the process of brainstorming, and worldbuidling and figuring out how the basic story will develop, but I love this part of the process and I can’t wait to start writing!

It’s less than ten days to go until NaNo and I haven’t outlined or worked out my side characters  (or my main characters), yet, but I’m optimistic. After all, I don’t expect to work solely on this project in November. I will keep revising that second novel of mine (let’s just call it #notsodarkdsff) and I’m going to add the words in my word count.

In other words, yes, I intend to procrastinate on the #notsodarksff with my new story. It will be fun!
