Friday Reads

Both these books, I’ve been reading them for a while now. Two reasons for this. The first one is a short story collection and, thus, I read one or two stories whenever I was in the mood. The second book was weird, it still is weird and it wasn’t a read that I could finish fast, but I’m close to the end and I hope to get some answers.

What is whatisnotyoursnot yours is not yours by Helen Oyeyemi

This is a collection of strange short stories of magical realism. I love the way the voices change from one story to the other and the information for background characters that many times read like a story in the story. I can’t wait to finish it, to have a better view of the whole book, but up until now, six stories (I think) in, I enjoy it immensely.

thefemalemanThe Female Man by Joanna Russ

I’m very close to the end in this book and, to be honest, I think I want it to finish sooner rather than later. I don’t know what it is with is, if it is the random short chapters or the writing , or the while it takes a to navigate in the story, but it’s a bit tiring to read. For the time it was written, though, it has a wonderful and timeless feministic message.
